*Maximizing with Music

Feel the beat and move to the rhythm as Saturday mornings come to life with celebrations of music.  Learn basic music skills, how to play a variety of instruments, and enjoy singing songs of different styles.  The last day of class, you will perform in an informal concert and share what you have learned.

 

*Do Not Panic!

Become more confident in responding to and coping in an emergency.  Role play safety in various situations.  Practice the four "A's" of taking responsibility for your own safety.  We will discuss your questions and concerns.

 

Hip Hop

Combining jaxx, funk, and freestyle, hip hop is an amazing creative outlet and awesome form of exercise.  Get pumped up for this fast-paced class-the hottest dance style of today.

 

Mystical India

Bollywood?  Mussoorie?  Cricket?  Where are we?  Experience mysterious India through taste, dance, language, folk tales, and a fashion show.

 

Secrets of the Rainforest

Travel into the rainforest to see what grows and lives in this beautiful environment.  Make your own chewing gum from chicle-the sap of the Sapodilla tree and help reduce the use of rainforest products.

 

Games and More!

From UNO to Monopoly, card and board games have been entertaining people for generations.  You will learn the rules, strategies, and proper etiquette tips when playing games.

 

Looking Like a Million Bucks!

You look in the mirror and what do you see?  Healthy living must first focus on hygienic practices and cleanliness.  Learn and practice how to wash your hands properly, take care of your bad breath, brush and floss your teeth correctly, and more!  Don't let messy hair ruin your whole day.

*Money Management

Whether you have a little money-or a lot-it will go much further if you manage it wisely and learn to make smart choices.  Learn how to tell the difference between needs and wants, keep track of your daily expenses, budget your weekly income or allowance, understand your paycheck stub, and save for those special purchases.

 

*Ballroom Dancing for Fun

Are you looking for a great form of exercise and a lot of fun?  Join this class and learn the basics of Swing, Waltz, and the Foxtrot.

 

Tool Time

Have you ever used an old-fashioned eggbeater, electric screwdriver, or windup alarm clock?  Through hands-on activities, practice using gadgets from the past to the present.

 

Digital Photography

Explore the common functions of a digital camera and how to use them.  Learn to creatively use your digital camera and get the best results!

 

Election 2008

Every time there is another election, the more important it is to learn about the candidate, issues, and offices being voted upon.  Learn about the electoral process and the actual election itself as you participate in a mock election.

 

Creature Creations

Starting with a mouse or other creature of your choice.  you will explore new vocabulary and sentence writing.  Create short stories and greeting cards.  Illustrate your story or card with expressions of art.

 

Interesting Interactions

Explore personal interests by interacting with interesting guests.  You will focus on life skills such as listening, thinking on your feet, and thinking outside of the box.  Tap into an expand your imagination.

 

 

11:20 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

 

*Fast Track

Jump on the fast track to learn more about NASCAR drivers and races.  You will practice changing a tire and detailing a car.  What other vehicles would you like to experience.

 

*Creative Holiday Appetizers

Are you searching for a show-stopping appetizer for your holiday party?  Practice making appetizers that are easy, look delicious, and sure to get your guests' attention.  Serving appetizers is the perfect icebreaker for your guests to get to know one another.

 

Puppets with personality

Touch, play, and express your creative spirit by learning the fundamentals of puppetry design.  You will perform with your puppet, find a new use for an old puppet, or create a puppet with a friend.  No writing or speaking skills required.  Just bring your imagination.

 

Soups, Salads, Sandwiches & Snacks

Are you passionate about food?  Join us in our celebration of good food, good taste, and good life.  You will prepare healthy, delicious soups, salads, sandwiches, and snacks-and best of all-enjoy sampling your own creations!

 

Go Green

Learn how to protect the environment at work, at home, and in your neighborhood.  Discover tips on how you can help raise awareness and become an active participant, such as turning off the water while you brush your teeth or stop buying bottled water.  Start today!

 

Library Lingo

Did you know that libraries have more than just books?  Gain new library skills by participating in a library scavenger hunt, "The Book Disaster", and the "Five Finger Test".

Express your creativity through a variety of jewelry-making products.  Glass, metal, wood, ribbons, stone...what will you choose?

MCC-Longview classes will be held on the MCC-Longview campus, 500 SW Longview Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO.

 

UMKC classes will be held on the UMKC Volker campus, 800 E. 52nd Street,Kansas City, MO.

 

MCC-Blue River classes will be held on the Blue River campus, 20301 E. 78 Highway, Independence, MO.

 

Your class schedule will be mailed the week before classes begin. If you have not received your schedule by the Thursday prior to the class start date, call the campus you will be attending:
